One hundred and fifty years ago, Oregon Trail pioneers faced a difficult river crossing on the banks of the Snake River at Three Island Crossing, near present day Glenns Ferry. These hardy pioneers could only count on what they carried in covered wagons. The river crossing offered the last chance to traverse from the increasingly barren and rugged south side of the river to the more pleasant north side. Pioneers who made it across celebrated their good fortune at a place now called Three Island Crossing State Park.
Just a stone's throw from the crossing, modern day travelers, adventurers and connoisseurs can toast to our forerunners' feat at Carmela Winery and Golf Course.
