One of the most popular gifts each year, wine baskets are a great idea. A bit of fine wine, some complimentary snacks and a nice basket for... Carrying it around, holding newspapers for recycling, collecting veggies from the garden... I don't know. I'm sure they'll find a use for the basket.

Wine gift baskets come in a few styles. Some are heavier on wine, some lean towards snacks and some come with loads of gadgets, glasses, books and other stuff. First you'll want to decide which way to go.

The wine basket end of the spectrum usually has a selection of several wines. You can't really go wrong here. A wine lover should be pretty open to new wines, so have no fear, unless the wines come in gallon jugs - then you may have cause for fear. You may try to get an idea if they lean hard towards reds or whites, but a mixed lot will make most any wine enthusiast happy.

Wine & food gift baskets generally follow the lines of sweet or savory (chocolate or cheese). Some have smoked salmon, caviar and crackers or biscuits as well. I'm a savory person, so for me, a wedge of nice cheese is a perfect compliment to a full bodied wine. A nice fatty chocolate bar can serve the same counter balance to anyone with a sweet tooth. It's much easier to choose when the choice is broken down to sweet or savory. If you can't decide, they make mixes too...

Wine & gear gift baskets come in all sorts of combos, some even have food... What they all have in common is extra knickknacks like corkscrews, wine glasses, books, stoppers, videos, cheese knife and cutting board, whatever doodads you can think of. If you know someone who continued buying kid's meals into their 20s so they could get the free toy, you know the type of person these baskets are meant for. So if someone on your list likes the gizmos and gadgets as much as the wine and food, this type of basket is sure to put a big smile on their face.

Pretty much anyone that carries wine baskets also offers an assortment of gift baskets that, shock of shocks, don't come with any wine! So perhaps you'll be able to put a check mark next to more than one name at just one shop...

The following sites all offer a wide variety of wine gift baskets in many price ranges. Each merchant is reputable and offers secure checkout, so avoid the crowds and shop online.
