Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon is from the French sauvage meaning... You guessed it, savage.

This is a wild, lively, intense wine that tastes of running through a field at six years old waving a butterfly net franticly through the air. Other flavors described range from herbal, to smoke, to hay, to cat pee, but I've not personally experienced the cat pee flavor...

The Loire Valley in France, New Zealand, Austria and South Africa all produce fine examples. Fume Blancs from California are also made with sauvignon grapes, while some Chilean sauvignon blancs are actually made with sauvignon vert. Confused? I did mention it's wild.

Sauvignon blanc mainly comes out of: Austria; California; Chile; France, in the Loire Valley and Bordeaux; Italy, in the Tre Venezie; New Zealand; South Africa; Texas; and Washington State.
