Delaware Wine & Beer Festival

Kent County Tourism is pleased to announce the inaugural Delaware Wine & Beer Festival, set for Sunday, October 17 at Pizzadili Vineyard and Winery in Felton, DE, just minutes south of Dover off Route 13. All Delaware wineries and breweries are invited to participate in this new event.

"We are very pleased to be working with the Pizzadili family on this first-ever event for Delaware," said Linda Kurtz, Director of Public Relations and Special Events for Kent County Tourism, a non-profit organization sponsoring the event. "With the recent launch of the Delaware Wine and Ale Trail, we felt a festival to further introduce the public to Delaware's wineries and breweries will give the public a first-hand look -- and taste -- of the wines and craft beers made in Delaware."

The event will be held from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and free to children 18 and younger. Tasting packages are available for $20, which includes festival admission and five tastings. Wine and beer glasses will also be sold for $5 each and comes with one beverage token. Additional beverage tokens can also be purchased. Pizzadili's will have a barbecue with food items such as hamburgers and hotdogs along with their famous pizza. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be on sale, and snacks will be provided.

Festival-goers will have the opportunity to meet Delaware's vintners and brewers and talk about their locations, their products and their processes. Tours of the winery will be available throughout the day, and the retail shop will be open.

Festival goers can listen to music, play horseshoes or volleyball and even participate in a "grape stomp."

Pizzadili Winery, was started in 1993 when the first grapes were planted by brothers Tony and Pete Pizzadili. Today the family business has grown into a full-scale vineyard and winery where 12 varieties of grapes are grown and used to make 20 wines from sweet to semi-sweet, dry, blush and fruit wines. The facility has been a popular wedding and special event venue.

The event will be held rain or shine inside a covered pavilion. Admission tickets will only be sold at the door. The winery is located at 1683 Peach Basket Road near Felton, DE, just minutes south of Dover. It is 1/10th of a mile off Route 13 on the right. For more information, call Kent County Tourism, 302-734-4888 or 800-233-5368.
